A Complete Guide: The Whitehall Sports 110 Gallon Mobile, Stationary, and Stationary with Legs Therapy Whirlpools

When combining warm water immersion with turbine-driven air and water agitation, both thermal and mechanical stimuli are delivered that is associated with therapeutic relief to soothe musculoskeletal pains and stiffness, provide restorative stimulus to damaged muscles and connective tissues, and provide a sense of well-being following physical activity. Consequently, they are used by athletes both before and after athletic performance.

Whitehall whirlpools and cold tanks are known for delivering functionable, high-quality, hygienic, built to last, and trusted hydrotherapy whirlpools and cold tanks to universities, schools, professional teams, clinics, and healthcare professionals for generations.

The most commonly purchased whirlpool across these various disciplines is the Whitehall Sports 110 Gallon Whirlpool. This specific model comes in three configurations — Mobile (WHS-110-M), Stationary (WHS-110-S), or Stationary with Legs (WHS-110-SL) — and is large enough to accommodate even the largest athlete. Determining which of these models actually fits (size, plumbing situation, etc.) your training room, clinic, or facility, and which would be most applicable to the needs of the athletes and those who care for them, is an important question that should be addressed before purchasing the right whirlpool.

All three share the same 110-gallon stainless steel tank and the same ½ HP turbine, but the differences in plumbing, mobility, and installation matter a lot once you start planning where the unit will live, and how it and the training room will be cared for. This guide breaks down the specs side by side, explains the turbine, finish, drain, and plug options, and provides purchasing guidance so you can order the right tank for your needs.

Why Use Whirlpool Therapy? Benefits and Uses

Whirlpool therapy (a form of hydrotherapy) combines water immersion with turbine-driven agitation to deliver heat and massage-like pressure to an injured area — or, with a full-body sports tank like this one, to the whole body at once. Hydrotherapy is used to manage pain, treat musculoskeletal injuries and disorders, and speed recovery after intense exercise.

A few of the most commonly cited benefits of whirlpool therapy include:

  • Pain relief for both acute and chronic conditions, including documented reductions in pain and stiffness for knee osteoarthritis patients.
  • Reduced inflammation and post-exercise muscle soreness for sprains, strains, and arthritis flare-ups.
  • Improved range of motion — which is why organizations like the Johns Hopkins Arthritis Center recommend heated whirlpool therapy as a gentler alternative to manual mobilization.
  • Wound care support, since agitated water helps remove dead tissue, clean the wound bed, and increase local circulation.
  • A drug-free option for pain management that avoids the side effects associated with opioids.

For athletes specifically, whirlpool immersion is a well-studied recovery tool. Research on contrast water therapy (alternating hot and cold immersion) has shown it outperforms passive rest for recovery, while both cold-water and warm-water immersion on their own have been shown to reduce muscle soreness, muscle damage, and losses in muscle strength and power after hard training or competition. That’s exactly the use case the Whitehall Sport 110 Gallon whirlpools are built for: full-body or large-extremity immersion for athletes, paired with enough tank volume that a trainer can treat someone comfortably rather than folding them into an undersized tub.

The Whitehall Sport 110 Gallon Series: Three Configurations, One Tank Platform

Whitehall builds the 110-gallon sports whirlpool on the same core tank — 304 stainless steel, seamlessly welded, with a coved (rounded) bottom that resists bacterial buildup and makes cleaning easier — and then offers it in three configurations depending on how and where you plan to install and use it:

S-110-M — Mobile

Sits on heavy-duty locking casters so it can be rolled and repositioned anywhere in a facility, with no dedicated plumbing required.

S-110-S — Stationary

Designed for permanent installation directly over a floor drain or drainage trough, with a skirt that conceals the internal drain piping.

S-110-SL — Stationary with Legs

The same permanently plumbed configuration, but raised on adjustable stainless steel legs for easier access and cleaning underneath the tank.

Turbine Features (Shared Across All Three Models)

Every Whitehall Sport 110 Gallon whirlpool — mobile, stationary, or stationary with legs — uses the same ½ HP, UL-listed jet pump turbine. It’s designed to do double duty as both the water agitator and, on the mobile and stationary-with-legs models, the emptying device that pumps used water out through a hose. Key features include:

  • ½ HP UL-listed motor built for continuous clinical use.
  • Dual function as agitator and (on mobile/SL units) drainage pump via reversing action.
  • Spring-loaded height adjustment with a locking device, so the turbine can be raised, lowered, and angled to direct water flow exactly where it’s needed.
  • ABS plastic motor shell with an automatic thermal overload protector to prevent motor damage from overheating.
  • Lifetime sealed bearings, reducing maintenance needs over the life of the unit.
  • Corrosion-resistant water-contact components made from stainless steel, chrome-plated brass, or bronze — materials chosen to resist corrosion from constant water exposure.

Tank Finish Options

All three configurations ship standard in polished satin stainless steel, but Whitehall also offers five Enviro-Glaze color finishes for an additional fee if you want the tank to match a team color scheme or facility décor:

Black (EG07)

White (EG10)

Alpine Lake (EG13)

Fairway Green (EG14)

Firehouse Red (EG15)

A custom business or team logo (12" x 12", submitted as an EPS file) can also be added to any finish for an additional fee.

Drain Options

Because plumbing setup differs by configuration, the available drain options vary slightly:

  • Standard drain — included on all models.
  • Reversing turbine drainage — standard on the Mobile and Stationary with Legs units; the turbine pumps used water out through a hose assembly into a nearby sink or floor drain, which is what allows these two configurations to be installed without dedicated plumbing.
  • High-capacity gravity drain — standard on the Stationary (no-legs) unit, which connects directly to a floor drain or trough for faster emptying.
  • Separate Drain & Overflow Assembly (SDO) — available as an upgrade on the Stationary (no-legs) model only; recommended for upper-floor installations or anywhere a floor drain isn’t available.
  • Separate Drain Pump (SDP) — an under-tank pump with a side evacuation hose, available for the Mobile and Stationary with Legs models.

Plug Options

All three models offer the same two plug options:

  • Standard plug — included.
  • Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) plug — available for an additional fee, adding an extra layer of electrical safety for wet environments.

Voltage is 110V standard on all models, with 220V configurations available for international installations (Europe, UK, Australia, India, and Israel).

Information to Consider by Configuration

Mobile Whirlpools (WHS-110-M)

Mobile whirlpools save time and are more accommodating because no special plumbing connection is required. They offer convenience since they can be placed and easily moved anywhere — the reversing turbine, which is standard on mobile units, pumps used water out of the tank through a hose assembly and into an available sink or drain. Heavy-duty locking casters ensure smooth transport while also securing the unit in place once it’s positioned. One thing to note: mobile whirlpools do not use the Separate Drain and Overflow Assembly (SDO) device.

Stationary Whirlpools (WHS-110-S)

Stationary whirlpools require a permanent plumbing connection (or must be positioned over a drain or drainage trough), which limits where they can be installed. Note that the drain is located at the end of the tank where the turbine sits, so your drainage setup needs to accommodate that configuration. These units offer a direct connection to both drain and water supply, and come standard with a high-capacity gravity drain for faster draining. The Separate Drain and Overflow Assembly (SDO) can be purchased as an upgrade for this unit — a good option if you don’t have convenient floor drainage.

Stationary Whirlpools with Legs (WHS-110-SL)

Like the standard stationary model, stationary whirlpools with legs require a permanent plumbing connection (or must be positioned over a drain or drainage trough), and the drain is likewise located at the turbine end of the tank, so plan your drainage accordingly. The reversing turbine — standard on stationary whirlpools with legs — pumps used water out of the tank through a hose assembly into an available sink or drain. The legs give the tank extra height off the floor, which makes cleanup underneath the unit considerably easier. As with the mobile configuration, stationary whirlpools with legs do not use the Separate Drain and Overflow Assembly (SDO) device.

Which One Should You Choose?

If your facility doesn’t have dedicated hydrotherapy plumbing, or you need the flexibility to move the tank between a training room and a treatment room, the Mobile (S-110-M) is the natural fit — it drains through its reversing turbine and rolls on locking casters.

If you have a dedicated hydrotherapy space with a floor drain and want the cleanest, most permanent installation with the fastest gravity drain time, the Stationary (S-110-S) is built for that.

And if you want that same permanent setup but also want easy access underneath the tank for cleaning, or slightly more clearance, the Stationary with Legs (S-110-SL) splits the difference.

Whichever configuration fits your space, all three deliver the same 110-gallon capacity, the same ½ HP turbine, and the same finish, plug, and accessory options — so the decision really comes down to your plumbing setup and how much flexibility you need.
