We often get questions (and observations) from those seeking to purchase the best/most appropriate whirlpool tank or cold tank for their particular setting, desired recuperative purpose for use, and unique characteristics, such as size, of those individual(s) who will use the tanks.

Whirlpool Tank Design Configurations
There are different design configurations in which the whirlpool tanks and cold tanks are designed to accommodate the unique settings and/or desires of the institution, organization, or individual that will be using the tanks. These are important to consider as they can impact the plumbing and space requirements of the facility where the tanks will be housed. They are:

Stationary Whirlpools

• Requires permeant plumbing connection
• Offers direct connection to drain and water supply
• Comes standard with high-capacity gravity drain

Stationary with Legs

• Uses permeant plumbing connection
• Provided with reversing turbines (standard) used to pump used water out of tank and into available sink/drain
• Legs are provided to give height to the whirlpool for easier under bottom cleaning

Stationary with Pedestal

• Simply elevates the whirlpool tank to a higher level for convenience and comfort in different seating settings

Mobile

• No special plumbing connection required
• Can use anywhere – reversing turbines (standard) pump used water out of tank and into available sink/drain
• Convenience of being able to be easily moved and positioned
• Smooth transport with heavy-duty locking casters

Mobile w/ Handle

• Simply provides a handle for easier moving of the whirlpool

Mobile w/ Undercarriage

• Simply provides greater clearance of tank so can be moved around easier over objects

Mobile w/ Lift Device

• Allows whirlpool tank to be elevated and lowered as needed

Whirlpool Tank Styles
In addition to the different design configurations, there are different styles of whirlpool tanks designed for targeted treatment areas of the body, different size individuals, and comfort accommodations as needed for different therapies. They are:

Podiatry Tanks: these hydrotherapy whirlpools are compact, low-gallon, and designed to treat injuries on the lower (foot, ankle, and lower leg injuries) extremities.

Extremity – these hydrotherapy whirlpools are compact, low-gallon, and designed to treat injuries on the upper (hand, wrist, and arm injuries) and lower (foot, ankle, and lower leg injuries) extremities.

Sports – designed larger than other whirlpools in order to more effectively accommodate larger athletes. Designed to treat most of the body, including the upper and lower extremities, hips, back, and shoulders

Hi-Boy – designed with taller sides in order to offer rehabilitative hydrotherapy for injuries to the back, hip, and shoulder areas. These whirlpools can accommodate full-body immersion for difficult-to-reach injuries, but they can also be paired with an Adjustable Suspension Seat or Tank Top Seat to comfortably treat the lower extremities as well.

Lo-Boy – designed with lower sides than standard therapy whirlpools in order to provide full-body immersion with easy access. Designed for treating the back, hips, upper and lower extremities on pediatric and geriatric patients.

Slant Back – designed to provide for a more comfortable hydrotherapy experience by allowing the user to recline and relieve pressure on the hips while comfortably accommodating larger individuals. Designed for treating torso, back, legs, hips, and bariatric individuals.

Rectangular Full Emersion Tanks – these hydrotherapy tanks are large to provide whirlpool therapy to the whole body simultaneously and physical therapy treatments. Applications include burn treatments.

Hubbard Full Emersion Tanks – these hydrotherapy tanks are large enough in design to treat the whole body simultaneously while the figure-eight shape allows for medical staff to more easily access the patient.
